Two ways stock costs you money
Most Shopify brands that hold stock fight both at once, often on the same order.
Best sellers run out
You find out a product is out of stock when the sales stop. By then the sale has gone, and the next delivery is weeks away.
Example: 12 a week sold. 0 available. Next delivery in 10 weeks.
Cash is tied up in slow stock
Sizes and colours that don't sell sit in boxes for months, while the cash you need for the next order of best sellers sits with them.
Example: XS and XXL ordered equally, but M outsells XS by 8 to 1.
Long overseas lead times make both worse
When production and shipping take months, the reorder decision happens long before the shelf is empty. Order late and best sellers run out. Order too much to be safe and cash sits in stock. Canopy uses your lead time to work out the date you need to order by.
What Canopy Inventory shows you
Canopy Inventory reads your Shopify products, stock and orders. It never writes anything back to your store.
How long each SKU's stock lasts
Weeks of cover is how long your stock lasts at your current sales rate. Canopy works it out for every SKU from a 7, 14, 30, 45, 60 or 90-day sales window, and shows the likely stockout date and the date you need to order by. Units sold inside bundles count towards each component.

The three things to do first
Canopy ranks three actions: buy a SKU, clear dead stock, or don't reorder an overstocked one. Urgent buys come first, then the actions worth the most. Each comes with a High, Medium or Low confidence badge that lists what weakens the forecast, such as a missing product cost or under 14 days of sales history.

How many to buy, and the cash it needs
Canopy suggests a buy quantity that covers your lead time, target cover and safety stock, minus stock and units already on order, rounded up to your pack size and raised to your minimum order. The cash to buy uses the Cost per item in Shopify. With no product cost, the figure is left blank, never counted as zero.

Simple sums you can check
No black box. Every figure comes from your Shopify data and the reorder settings you choose.
- Weeks of cover
- Available stock divided by units sold per week in the sales window. A window longer than your sales history shows n/a, never an estimate.
- Stockout date
- Steps forward day by day at your sales rate, adding open purchase orders on their expected date.
- Reorder-by date
- The stockout date minus your lead time and safety stock days. When it has passed and a buy is due, the table says Order now.
- Suggested buy
- Lead time plus target cover plus safety stock days of sales, minus stock and units on order, rounded up to pack size, then raised to your minimum order.
One SKU, from today to its stockout date
Day 0
Today
240 in stock. 120 sold in the last 30 days, so 28 a week: 8.6 weeks of cover.
Day 16
Reorder by
The stockout date minus 30 days lead time and 14 days safety stock.
Day 46
Stock arrives
If you order on the reorder-by date, 30 days later.
Day 60
Stockout date
When 240 units run out at 4 a day, with nothing on order.
Every formula, default and edge case is set out in how Canopy calculates weeks of cover, reorder dates and buy quantities. Want to try the sums by hand first? Use the reorder point calculator.
Read-only. Your data is deleted when you leave.
Reads, never writes
Canopy asks Shopify for read-only access to products, inventory, locations and orders. It never changes stock, costs, products or orders.
No customer details
Canopy doesn't request customer records and doesn't store customer names, emails or addresses. Orders are reduced to units sold per variant per day.
Deleted on uninstall
Uninstall and Canopy loses access straight away. Your store's data is deleted when Shopify sends the store redaction request, 48 hours later.

Canopy Inventory answers the questions a Shopify brand asks every week: how many weeks of stock does each product have left, when will it run out, and what should we reorder?
It reads your Shopify products, stock and orders, and never writes anything back to your store.

Not for everyone
We'd rather be honest upfront than waste your time.
- Brands not using Shopify as their main platform
- Stores that need barcode scanning, stocktakes or goods-in
- Stores that need stock synced to Amazon, eBay or other channels
- Stores that want an app to change stock or create purchase orders in Shopify (Canopy is read-only)
- Dropshipping-only stores with no stock of their own
Shopify itself now has purchase orders and transfers. Where Canopy fits alongside Shopify inventory management.
